The Falcons fell to Parkway South, 7-10, in the first round of the MSLA playoffs.
Game Stats: Cody Blevins (1G), TJ Altoonian (2G/1A), Grant Dickerson (1G/1A), Charles Albritton (1G), Fritz Vasquez (1G/1A), Nathan Jordan (1G).
The Falcons Varsity ended the season with a 12-4 record and advanced to the playoffs in the team’s second year of varsity play. With the exception of one player, no one had more than two years of lacrosse experience entering the season.
The effort, execution, and sportsmanship displayed by the 2006 team has certainly brought attention to the program from other teams in the league and will be instrumental in the growth of lacrosse in Springfield. The following was posted on the message board at lacrosseforums.com by a Parkway South player after last night’s game:
“in the south vs springfield game, it was the cleanest game i have ever been in. springfields players knew how to play the game without being cheap and simply played the game. if its really their 2nd year playing im amazed. very respectable team. i had players after the game when i was going to my car congratulating me and wishing me luck in the rest of the playoffs. that takes some class and obviously they had it. props to u guys springfield.”
Well done, gentlemen.
In the other first round game played last night, CBC defeated Blue Valley West, 12-11.
The end of the season picnic is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6, from 6:00-9:00pm at the Cooper Estates Clubhouse. Details to follow.
The Springfield Falcons (12-3) will enter the MSLA postseason tournament as the #12 seed and face the #5 seed, the Parkway South Patriots (10-5). The game will be played at 8:00pm on Wednesday, May 17 in St. Louis. Parkway South is working on securing a field since their regular field does not have lights. Field information and driving directions will be posted ASAP.
All Falcons Varsity and JV players are expected to make the trip on the bus. If you are a JV player that will not be attending, you must let Sara know.
All players should be on the south side (gym side) of Glendale at 3:00pm with all of their gear ready to depart. You will receive a sack lunch on the bus. We will need to quickly stow our equipment and load the bus. With construction on I-44, it is imperative that we leave Glendale on schedule so that we can go through our pre-game warm-up.
As the visitor, we will wear our red jerseys, but please make certain to bring both uniforms. Double and triple check your bags to make certain that you have all of your equipment, including your mouthguard. When we get off the bus, we need to be able to focus on the game and not be in a mad scramble for missing equipment. Everyone, except the 8th the graders, should be dressed to play. Eighth graders are ineligible to play in Varsity games.
A limited number of seats will be available to parents. The cost to parents is $20 per seat. If you want to reserve a seat, you should call Sara’s cell phone (234-6412) between 7:00am and 10:00pm.
We will likely make a quick stop to get something to eat on the way back, so each player should bring a small amount of cash.
The bus should return to Springfield around 2:00am. Seniors have final exams on Thursday and Friday and should be preparing for exams now.
